What is a naturist/nudist?
Naturists are people who enjoy being nude in appropriate settings. The motivation of a naturist should be pure and non-sexual. It is about simplicity, fun and true relaxation.
What’s the difference between naturism, nudism and naturalism?
Naturism or nudism is a lifestyle that practises, advocates and defends personal, family and/or social nudity. The word naturism was coined by a French-speaking Belgian, Jean Baptiste Luc Planchon in 1778. He used the term to advocate and improve the “hygiène de vie” – the natural style of life and health. Naturalism is the study of the universe (a completely and far more important thing!) Please see this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naturalism_(philosophy)
The naturist philosophy as we know it today can be traced back to the health and fitness philosophy in Germany in the early 20th century Later on the idea spread throughout parts of Europe, the UK, Canada, USA and beyond. Naturism is a more specialist form of nudism that carries the concept of returning to nature and being “at one” with the environment. Most naturists prefer activities such as hiking in the wilderness and exploring beaches than being involved with organised nudist facilities, although French naturism, on the other hand, developed on the basis of large holiday complexes. More recently, clothes-free beaches and other types of anonymous nudist activities have served those who wish to take part in naturist activities without belonging to any clubs.
The International Naturist Federation defines naturism as: "a lifestyle in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterised by self-respect of people with different opinions and respect for the environment."
Who becomes a naturist/nudist?
Anybody who wants to. The only requirement is that you pursue it for the right reasons. People of all ages, males, females, couples and entire families enjoy the freedom that naturism gives them.
Aren't naturists just a bunch of old people?
No, of course not! You may find that some resorts tend to attract older crowds, but that isn't the rule. Many places are family-oriented and have people of all ages, including babies, kids, teens, young adults, parents and yes, of course, the wiser ones. Here at “Let’s Get Naked” members of all ages are welcome, even as we aim to promote the philosophy amongst younger people within the larger movement of naturism.
What do naturists/nudists look like?
Naturists come in all shapes and sizes, all ages and races. It is a common misconception that you have to be a supermodel to be able to try naturism/nudism. Some naturists are fat, some are skinny, some are short, some are tall, some are physically disabled, some have scars, some could never get a tan, and others would never need one. Guys who worry that they might be “under-endowed” compared to other guys also quickly learn that the size of their genitals is totally irrelevant in a naturist setting. “Normal” covers a vast range of differences! Naturist tend to have a deep respect and caring outlook toward one another.
Where do naturists/nudists go?
Some stay at home, some enjoy hiking nude in the great outdoors and some like meeting others at nude beaches and nudist resorts. Some people even go bungy jumping in their birthday suit (Billy Connelly among many others!)
What do naturists do for fun?
Just about anything that can be done with clothes on can also be done without clothes. Most naturists seem to gravitate towards sunshine and water, so sunbathing and swimming are a given. Some play sports like volleyball or tennis, while others play pool or simply work in their garden. Basically anything that can be done in clothing can also be done naked, with the exception of frying bacon or climbing Mt Cook! Actually frying bacon CAN be done naked, as for climbing Mount Cook........Well if you're the first then WELL DONE!!! Tell us all about it but spare us the pictures please! Icicles aren't meant to hang from the human body ;)
Does naturism increase the risk of cancer?
No. The suns good rays provide vital protection from many forms of cancer. Skin cancer is probably less common amoungst naturists than clothed sunbathers. PLEASE READ MORE ABOUT THIS HERE!
Do naturists hate clothes?
No. Naturists are normal people who like to have a sense of style just like everybody else. The majority of naturists don't live in a nude or clothes optional resort, they work and live among non-naturists (sometimes known as "Textiles") everyday. They simply exercise the option to shed their clothes completely whenever and wherever the opportunity arises, and relax in their most basic state.
So naturists are not perverts?
Absolutely not. Some people make the mistake of lumping naturists together with a less than wholesome crowd. Exhibitionists are NOT true naturists; they are motivated to show their skin for sexual reasons. Voyeurs are NOT naturists; they just want to see skin for sexual reasons. Swingers are NOT naturists; they are motivated by sexual conquest. Strippers are NOT naturists; they are making money selling their skin.
What if a guy gets an erection?
This is one of the most common fears among inexperienced naturist men. But if you ask any experienced naturist they will tell you that they can barely count the times when this has been a problem. The body follows the mind and when your mind learns to separate sex from simple nudity, it stops trying. Naturism is a family-oriented lifestyle, and for reasons of politeness and decorum an erection should never be deliberately publicly displayed. It's unlikely that other naturists will scorn you for getting an erection – however it's a totally natural thing to happen at times, especially if you're new to the naturist lifestyle. But lets face it, however "noticable your erect penis is, it's always easy to keep out of view in one way or another, and will go away quickly if you try.
Why should I become a nudist?
Because the only thing more fun than spending a day in the sun and playing around in the pool is doing all that completely naked! You'll get that nice all-over tan without having to fake n' bake. People are just more real; nobody is hiding behind their clothes. It's a great way to make friends. It's healthy for your self-confidence and it’s healthy for your body. It gives you a new perspective on how you see yourself and others.
